Why does Opel build such good cars? One of the answers can be found in Dudenhofen: the Opel Test Center. Here, our engineers enjoy the ideal conditions to meticulously test and optimize prototypes. The Dudenhofen grounds offer all kinds of tracks including steep turns, a high-speed oval track, a torture track, water crossings, etc. This makes it the perfect place to improve your driving skills. And with a little luck, you can take a look into the future and watch one of our latest prototypes being put through its paces.

Test track overview

How strong are the shock absorbers? How stable are the brakes? Does the airbag deploy on time? What are the exact performance characteristics? Our various test tracks give definite answers to all these questions. In addition to the tracks described below the test center also offers noise measurement and an airbag misuse area.

Skid Pad

The steering pad or skid pad has a diameter of 100 meters and a curvature of 0.5%. Here we test cornering ability under extreme conditions.

High-speed circle track

The circular track is a 4.8 km banked circuit with four lanes and a banked angle of up to 37 degrees. It can be driven at speeds of up to 250 km/h without lateral forces. There are three braking pads on the right-hand edge of the track for high speed braking tests.

Comfort and noise measurement track

The track is about 4.4 kilometers long and has four lanes at the widest point. It is characterized by long and short waves and a section of twists and depressions. It puts a lot of demands on the chassis. The track offers a number of different road surfaces to ascertain rolling tire noise, interior noise and driving comfort.

Torture tracks

How much punishment can a vehicle take? The torture tracks bring the truth to light – over 900 meters of potholes, humps, the “washboard”, a cobbled section and a pavé track.

Hill track

This man-made hill area has rising and falling gradients of 8% to 30% with different road surfaces, there is also a serpentine section with hairpin turns. Steering, transmission and brakes are put to the test.

Endurance track

The endurance test track is the longest in the test center. It offers many different road surfaces including asphalt and cobblestones, waves and numerous curves.

Other special tests can be completed within the endurance test track: It also offers gravel tracks, mud, a forest and dust trail, a water or salt water bath and two loading ramps.

Performance Area

The Performance Area is perfect for the proving of the vehicle dynamics and driver training. It consists of an oval track with two U-turns and a long straight. A skid pad and aquaplaning zone is integrated. The skid pad can be fully or partially irrigated and has a deviation from flatness of only 2 mm per 4 meters.

Handling track

In just about a kilometer, the handling track goes through 16 curves and hollows, uphill and downhill – for the driver it’s like a miniature version of the Nordschleife. In order to ensure safety as well as fun there are run-offs installed all along the route.

At the Hanau junction, take the B45 towards Dieburg, Babenhausen, Rodgau
Follow the road until the Rodgau-Nieder-Roden, Babenhausen junction
Take the L3116 in direction Babenhausen
After approx. 1.8 km turn left into the Dudenhofen Test Center

If using a navigation system, please enter “Opel Testzentrum” or “Opel Prüffeld”. Entering the postal address can sometimes lead to wrong directions.

Recommended hotels

You should have a good night’s rest before you begin your driver training. If your trip to Dudenhofen is long, we recommend an overnight stay in the area. Hotel prices are available on request. Please note that booking and accommodation expenses are not part of the driver training.
