Rüsselsheim. Opel has been putting the wheels on the Munich film festival filmfest-muenchen (June 23-July 2) for the last three years. The successful cooperation now takes a new shape – Opel and the “Internationale Münchner Filmwoche GmbH” have created the “Sophie Opel Prize”. Talented film makers at German universities have been invited to submit unconventional, innovative commercial spots or short films about “Umparken im Kopf” (change your mind), Opel’s well-known advertising campaign. At the end of the 19th century, Sophie Opel was renowned as a pioneering and inspiring personality in the then young automobile industry. Opel recently used the motto “Umparken im Kopf” to transform outdated prejudices about the brand into a strong, positively charged image.
“’Umparken im Kopf’ was the most successful brand campaign in recent years. We are eager to see how young, creative film makers and students give the idea of changing people’s opinions a new twist”, says Tina Müller, Opel’s Chief Marketing Officer.
“Together with our partner Opel, we are delighted to present the ‘Sophie Opel Prize’ for the first time this year”, adds Diana Iljine, the head of “Filmfest München”. “It gives young film makers the opportunity to display their abilities in front of a highly qualified audience during the Munich film festival.”
The jury of experts, including Tina Müller and Diana Iljine, actor/director Ken Duken, as well as Lutz Carstens, Editor of “TV Spielfilm” magazine, and Professor Christian Köster, commercial film director, will choose the three most innovative spots from the entries submitted. The winners will receive prize money totaling €20,000 (€12,000 for first place, €5,000 for second and €3,000 for third), making the “Sophie Opel Prize” the richest award for film students from German universities.
Young film makers can submit their entries until May 27, 2016. The award ceremony with prominent guests will be held during the Munich film festival on June 30, 2016, at the Munich University of Film and Television.
