Rüsselsheim. Mats Hummels aims, shoots … and hits the bar. From there, the ball bounces right onto the roof of an Opel Movano parked behind the goal. And this is supposed to be an advert for a carmaker? Yes, because anybody can do traditional advertising. In the new social media hit by Opel, the athletes are stars. However, not only the stars of Opel partner club Borussia Dortmund take center stage. Soon the jovial kick about turns into an exciting dual with the “everyday heroes” Movano, Vivaro and Combo and their drivers. The Borussia Dortmund stars are astonished by the footballing skills of the supposed builders and craftsmen.
These artisans turn out to be the F2Freestylers, probably the most famous football freestylers in the world. They have fascinated the internet community around the globe with their skills. Moreover, the duo show their tricks in the new Opel clip too. Dribblings, acrobatic moves and precise shots through the van baffle the viewers of the new social video that was made available on Borussia Dortmund’s official social media channels on Monday and has already been viewed over 5.3 million times and “liked” 193,000 times in less than two days.
“Social videos around topics such as football partnerships, motorsports or other occasions are a new pillar of Opel’s brand communication. They strengthen emotional brand loyalty and show Opel in a surprising and unconventional light. Exactly that is our strength,” said Opel CMO Tina Müller.
What started with “Umparken im Kopf” (Change your mind) is continued in the new internet video – Opel is shown in a surprising light. The same also goes of the Opel vehicles on show. They not only impress with well-known virtues such as solidarity and reliability but the versatility of the LCV trio is also a main feature of the spot. Furthermore, the obvious fun potential of the Movano, Vivaro and Combo is highlighted. The tilted flatbed and the opened rear doors are used to perfection by the F2Freestylers to show their trickery. The cheeky Opel clip is available on the Dortmund and Opel channels such as Facebook and YouTube.
