Rewind on a less normal experience

Less home office, more house groove. Europe’s top DJ’s streaming direct to your dancefloor, powered by Defected Records and Opel Mokka.

On April 9, we celebrated the electrifying launch of new Opel Mokka with a Less Normal Experience. Opel teamed up with Defected Records – the most influential UK house music label of all time, dedicated to the finest house tracks, artists and festivals. Together we hosted a virtual dance party with six of Europe’s hottest DJs playing six hours of sizzling beats from London, Marseilles, Chicago, Berlin and our hometown Rüsselsheim. If you missed out, simply hit the link below and rewind on a Less Normal Experience.

What a less normal experience is all about

People from all walks of life, together as one
Get excited for an inclusive virtual dance party, a coming together of Opel Mokka’s Less Normal spirit and Defected Records’ mantra that In Our House We Are All Equal. Streaming live from six iconic locations across Europe, this Less Normal Experience brings you six hours of international club hits curated by six top DJs from Defected Records. Buckle-up as the beat drops.

A less normal partnership

What unites Defected Records and Opel Mokka.

The world’s already got enough normal, new or otherwise. When we built the bold and pure new Mokka it was clear it was anything but ordinary. We teamed up with folks sharing the same attitude to leaving normality in the dust – that’s where Defected Records came in.

James Kirkham, Chief Business Officer at Defected said: “We’re looking to do things differently; by leveraging music as the common denominator to millions, we’re giving modern consumers new routes into the Opel brand, launching a vehicle like the Opel Mokka in a truly exciting and engaging way. By simultaneously releasing our club remix soundtrack from the TV spot and embedding it onto promotional assets - all leading to our virtual launch party, Less Normal Experience - we’re flipping the traditional marketing script and showing how the power of music can work way beyond a mere sound sync.”

How it started x where it’s going

It's a new dawn, it's a new day.
The first hint anyone got about A Less Normal Experience was Opel’s high-energy collab with Defected Records on the new Opel Mokka TV spot. Combining the best of legacy and modernity, the highly emotive, explosively brassy rework of Nina Simone’s classic Feeling Good was the perfect soundtrack for Mokka: fun, young-minded, electric and innovative in all respects. It’s still racking up streams on Spotify, setting the tone for the whole Mokka campaign and your own Less Normal Experience.

Gorgon City (London x Chicago)

Every City’s A Gorgon City

Gorgon City became industry superstars with a unique blend of bass-driven house. Staying true to their UK garage roots, Kye and Matt are known for spinning bright vocals over darkly tropical rhythms. With pulsing four-on-the-floor basslines, they spelled double trouble for A Less Normal Experience via their transatlantic link-up spinning the best of both worlds.

“It's a pleasure to be part of such an exciting collaboration and event. We always love performing for Defected and we're really happy with the way our set has turned out. The line-up is amazing, so it's an honour to be involved!”— Gorgon City
