Rüsselsheim. Sporty, surprising and diverse – that is Opel's year 2015 in a nutshell. In the last twelve months, Opel has introduced a veritable fireworks of products that has ignited interest and passion everywhere – with you, our media colleagues, as well as with your readers and our customers. We thank you for that.
It started out in the first weeks of the year with the presentation of our bold mini ADAM S and the Corsa OPC powerhouse (combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: ADAM S: 5.9 l/100 km, 139 g/km; Corsa OPC: 7.5 l/100 km, 174 g/km). Shortly thereafter, the latest member of what is now the strongest small car family Opel has ever had made its entry: the Opel KARL (combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: 4.5-4.1 l/100 km, 104-94 g/km). Ideally suited for everyday driving, it’s a car with heart and brain for a small price – and so a new, real alternative on the market.
At this point the highlight of Opel's year 2015 was already creating a buzz: at pre-events we were with you on the road all over Europe with our all-new compact class star Astra before it finally made its official world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt. More modern, lightweight, athletic – with this quantum leap we introduced a new Opel era. "Now Opel is fighting back", "Opel's new magic wheels", or simply an astonished, "OH! So light?" were the first headlines. And hopefully you’ve already been able to see for yourselves that our newcomer delivers what it promises – with a host of new technologies such as the adaptive IntelliLux LED® Matrix Light and Opel OnStar on board, as well as the latest IntelliLink infotainment generation including smartphone integration and much more. Up to 219 kilograms lighter than before according to car magazine statements and with a completely newly developed engine generation under the hood, the new Astra not only cuts a sporty, elegant figure – our star is also racking up one comparison test victory after another. And while even Santa Claus is over the moon about all this, these facts first and foremost convince our customers. In most markets, the newly minted “Golden Steering Wheel” winner just made its premiere at dealerships in November, and already more than 65,000 orders have been received.
Of course other models are also playing a big role in Opel's successful sales year. The Mokka has become an absolute bestseller in the SUV segment. And the latest Vivaro generation has brought Opel over 100,000 orders to date. With this strong portfolio, we were already able to top this year’s one million sales mark target in November.
We'd like to thank you, the readers and our customers for this exciting year and we wish you a happy, relaxing and peaceful holiday season. We look forward to driving ahead into the next leg of our journey with you in 2016. Because with our new Opel Astra Sports Tourer we will soon be taking off for our next quantum leap.
